Education Grants for Single Moms - Obama's New Scholarship Package Delivers

The American President Barack Obama proposed his scholarship programs for moms early this year. In this assistance, single moms are given financial assistance to go back to the schools for continuing their studies. They would receive a tax credit also for the amounts received. The scholarship programs exist in various forms in the chosen field of study. Single moms are allowed to attend schools for study or they can do an online course at an accredited university. The financial assistance is given in the form of Pell Grants which are processed after an application is accepted through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

For receiving assistance, an applicant can fill out an online application form provided at FAFSA website. One can submit a printed application also along with all other documents. One should have Personal Identification Number (PIN) obtained from the US Department of education to apply for a FAFSA financial assistance. Upon receipt and further processing of the applications, a student aid report (SAR) is sent to the eligible applicants.

The Pell Grant assistance is a need based program. It is given to students earning a specified income limit. The maximum grant amount may be around five thousand dollars. The amount of Pell Grant varies depending on the current income, work history, number of children, duration of the course and the amount of money required. Most of the schools and universities participate in the federal Pell Grant program.

With certain exceptions, these grants are available only to undergraduate studies for a maximum limit of 18 semesters. The moms are allowed to choose their area of study according to their interest and aptitude. They are allowed to do accredited online courses also if they don't have time to attend a regular school.

The eligible applicants need to disclose other grants or scholarships that they are receiving at the time of granting money under the President's new stimulus package. This measure is to distribute the grants only to the eligible applicants and to award the grants based on the actual need.
